"The movements towards accessibility is also the movement towards color. To go back, originally, déclare le sculpteur anglais Raymond Mason, I was a painter, so when I started doing sculpture, the color crept in quite quickly. In fact, I was painting plaster sculptures during the War and exhibited them in London in 1946, just before I left for Paris. And when, a year later, I exhibited in a group show at the Galerie Maeght, which was just at its very beginning, all the sculptures were polychrome."
